In the mid-1990s, Mr. Edwin Menezes and Mr. Cedric Vaz, the Civil Duo, formed the partnership firm Edcon Real Estate Developers, rather than on a family background. Since the company's beginnings in Panaji, it has focused its efforts on the capital's most coveted space such as Campal to Porvorim to Mapusa, creating over a million sq. ft. of residential, commercial and hospitality offerings in the market over the past three decades. One of its most well-known addresses is its Edcon Rio Grande in Campal, an eight-storey building set on overlooking the banks of Mandovi and which has recently been christened Edcon Mindspace in Panaji as a successful commercial destination.
The company, launched by engineers, has built a reputation for attention to detail and taking its after-sales service seriously and is often cited by the long-term owners of its previous housing projects. Like the pioneering Edcon Enclave, for amenities such as the round-the-clock water supply and stilted parking things that were rare and new in Panaji at the time. The company continues to promote itself as a careful, quality builder which sits in opposition to the larger volume-driven builders operating in other parts of the state, and now has its own flagship building under the name Siddharth Bandodkar Bhavan.
